Fazil On Yu is a Ugandan-born, award-winning dance artist, choreographer, activist and performance maker born on the 26th of February 1992.

Fazil’s practice is predominantly developed in dance theatre and performance art. He loves to think and stimulate audiences through dance and movement integrated with multidisciplinary art forms in both conventional, unconventional, and digital spaces, while engaging and dialoging with his audience. He also produces documentary films and artistic installations. His work is mainly inspired by pressing socio-political issues, and his aim is to advocate for positive social change.

Fazil has trained and schooled in Arts both formally and informally: he holds a Bachelor’s degree in Arts from Makerere University (2019), Kampala, Arts Certificate from IPOW U.K Arts Initiative (2018) and a Certificate of Next Level U.S.A. Arts Program (2015).

Over the years, Fazil has participated in creations, programming and organization of numerous artistic projects, events and festivals, worked and collaborated with renown international art institutions, such as: Goethe-Zentrum Kampala, Alliance Francaise Kampala, Prince Claus Arts Fund Netherlands, British Council Uganda, Uganda National Cultural Institute, and Institut Francais Paris. Fazil’s work has been staged both nationally and internationally at festivals and independently organized shows.

He is a recipient of multiple awards and of recent; winner of the Prince Claus Seed Award 2022 Netherlands, Audience Award – Movimentale Dance and Video Art Festival Awards Napoli –Italy 2021.
